Eye Exams
Baby's First Eye ExamÂ
The first eye exam for babies is recommended at 6 months of age according to the American Optometric Association. Their eyes are developed to 20/20 vision by 6 months. Babies do not need to speak for us to do their eye exam. We can look in the eyes with our equipment and know what the prescription is for glasses and if their eye health is good or not. Call us for details and to schedule your baby's eye exam. Watch the video of our patient who received her eye glasses for the first time below.
Comprehensive eye exams should occur early in life to ensure proper eye and vision development. Ongoing eye health examinations at regular intervals are equally important as many eye diseases and vision changes can occur without warning signs.

During a comprehensive eye exam, the doctor will use eye charts to measure the sharpness of your vision. The classic example of an eye chart is the Snellen eye chart. You will be asked to find and read the smallest line of text that you can make out. The standard vision acuity is 20/20, which is the fourth line from the bottom. If you can read either of the bottom two rows, your visual acuity is better than most people.

At 20/20 Optometric Eye Care, we believe in a thorough eye exam, which means we also check for color vision deficiencies and test your eyes to see how they work together. To ensure your eyes are healthy, we recommend seeing an eye doctor for your comprehensive eye exams on a regular basis.
